Component 1: Strengthening the Policy, Legal and Regulatory Framework for Land Administration
The Judicial Service of Ghana is supported to implement activities under Component 1 of the second phase of the Ghana Land Administration Project.
This component aims to make land administration and management systems more transparent and efficient to enhance tenure security and transferability and will provide a platform for continued work on the legal framework governing land administration and land use, building upon the accomplishments achieved under LAP-I.
Subcomponent 1.2: Partnership with the Judiciary.
The Ghana Land Administration Project 2 collaborates with the Judicial Service of Ghana under Subcomponent 1.2.
Through this, the project will continue the collaboration with the judiciary, both in terms of extending and improving the operation of Land Courts, reducing the backlog of land cases particularly in LAP-2 target regions, and deepening the training of judges, lawyers and other key actors in land administration and in the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in the adjudication of land cases
“Rules of the Court” as they pertain to the adjudication of land related cases will be reviewed to reflect modern practices and “Practicing Guidelines” prepared to facilitate faster adjudication of land cases. Support will also be provided for scanning land records and publishing land cases. The land courts in the target regions will be automated. Selected circuit courts in Western, Greater Accra, Ashanti and Northern will be renovated and automated as well.
