Land Registration To Take Three Months

The Ghana Lands Commission is developing a comprehensive land information system to automate most of land registration processes as well as online services to improve service delivery and ultimate client satisfaction.

Dr. Wilfred Odame, Executive Secretary, said Surveying and Mapping, Land Evaluation Division, Public and Vested Lands and Land Title Registration have been integrated into one component to reduce turnaround time and cost in registration.

He was speaking at a two-day orientation and sensitization workshop for officers of the Lands Commission on the new business process and the introduction of the clients service and access units of the Commission.

Dr. Odame said the many fees that hitherto had to be paid by a client had been collapsed and that a one stop customer service and access units had been created to help address the unnecessary delay and cost in process document.

Dr.Odame said the reengineering processes and the business integration when fully operational would reduce the seven months of registration to three whiles land deeds would move from three months to one month.

Phase one of the operations of the client service and access units would be piloted in five regions-Western, Greater Accra, Upper East, Northern and Eastern regions in March next year.

Phase two would involve instant searches of information on a particular land through internet and other softwares all aimed at improving efficiency.

Mr. Ben Arthur, Chief Land Administration Officer and Leader of the reengineering team, said the lands sector needed a paradigm shift to improve service delivery.

He called on officers of the Commission to be receptive to the ethics and methodology to help in consolidating the new process.

Mr. Arthur added that inefficiencies in the land sector could impact negatively on investment and investor confidence adding, “We are poised to overcome the challenges”.
