5.3.9 Enhance Georeferenced Image

A georeferenced image can be enhanced for its contrast, colors, appearance, but do not simply load it into your graphics package (Paint Shop Pro), because you will then loose the Map Map calibration and all the coordinates. Graphics software can not handle georeferencing.

You have to follow three steps:

1. Convert the image to a different format (recommended: BMP) with an external world file: In Map Maker, Main menu > Utilities > Bitmap utilities > Convert file format > From JPG > Select folder and file, you want to enhance > Open > Save As window > Save as type: BMP > Specify new file name (e.g. Temp) > Save > Select calibration option window: ‘World’ file (*.bpw) > OK

2. In Paint Shop Pro, you can enhance the colors, contrast, brightness, etc. You can even use the paintbrush etc, but do not change the size or resolution o the image:

• Do not resize.
  

• Do not clip. Do not crop to selection
  

• Do not canvas size.
  

After finishing, you save as usual.

3. Back to Map Maker, you then convert this (BMP) image back to JPG format with Map Maker calibration: Main menu > Utilities > Bitmap utilities > Convert file format > From BMP > Select folder and file, you just enhanced (Temp) > Open > Save As window > Save as type: JPG > You can select the previous file name > Save > Select calibration option window: Map Maker calibration > OK. Finished.
